Route 66 Photo

While visiting the Petrified Forest Nation Park we found this old car that marks Historic Route 66 . Traces of an old roadbed and weathered telephone poles in the background mark the path of the famous Main Street of America. Petrified Forest National Park is the only park in the National Park System containing a section of Route 66.

From Chicago to Los Angeles, this heavily traveled highway was not only a road. It stood as a symbol of opportunity, adventure and exploration to travelers. Directions: Driving from Albuquerque travel 204 miles west on Interstate 40 to Exit 311, to the North entrance of the Petrified Forest .

Cadillac bumper completes the site. Tractor trailers in the background travel Westbound on US 40.

Approximately 460 miles to the west is the highway in Barstow CA.

I look forward to all your pictures. This is my kind of thing!! Mike and I will be taking a trip on Amtrak - leaving Los Angeles around the first week of April spending four nights at the downtown plaza in Santa Fe - one of our Christmas gifts from the family. Looking forward to that trip, as we have never visited Santa Fe.
